Hello everyone,
So let me start out by saying I don't like to talk about myself, but I can't help but share this with my hip hop family and anyone else who is nice enough to take the time to read my sh*t! Thank you all in advance.
So it dawns on me that for the first time, my life is gonna be different in 2009 than it has ever been. I do agree with the Blog that Jhen Jhen posted regarding getting an education is important but sometimes I do regret pursuing my education and I sometimes think "what if..." but nonetheless I am proud of the decision to stick with the path I made for myself. I know that the "adult thing" to do is to follow through, which is why it took me so god damn long to get where I am today but hey we all gotta start somewhere right? This is going to be my final semester in college and I will finally walk to receive my bachelors' degree in a university graduation (something I could never picture myself doing.) I barely passed high school and it blows my mind when I think about that.
At first, I didn't want to do anything with my life and now I want to do EVERYTHING and the problem is, I don't know where the hell to start. But I think we all feel like this sometimes. Luckily, I have a great family who gives me good advice. My passion for music and the arts has always kept me on my toes even when shit gets bad, I'll always have my music and my dance to carry me through the storm.
I AM A TRUE HIP HOP FAN. I really don't give a shit that I can't recite all the hip hop lyrics word for word nor do I have the talent of name dropping who is who of music producers, what year an album dropped, or where artists where born and raised and what kinda food they eat..... but fuck who really has that kind of time??? Just because I wasn't born in the 70's DOES NOT mean that I don't know shit about hip hop. I was born in the mid 80's and I can't tell you how many times I've heard " Dizzy, real hip hop was way before your time, you were born when the hip hop turned wack." I'm like WTF its not that it turned wack but everything changes for better or worse.......but statements like the one I mentioned is exactly what divides the hip hop community because that whole "that was before your time" shit is just another way of dividing a generation of hip hop and that is why there is so much hate in this industry. Don't get me wrong, I do love B-Boy hip hop and I have always bumped hip hop legends like Tribe Called Quest, RUN DMC, De La Soul, Gang Starr, Wu Tang, KRS ONE, Afrika Bambaataa, Slick Rick, Dilated Peoples..............shit I can go on forever. But I still appreciate mainstream hip hop or "hip pop" too because #1. dancing is one of my passions #2. there wouldn't be fly ass females shakin it at the clubs if it wasn't for the candy rappers so you can't be mad at it!
On a last note I really want to make 2009 a great year for me and everyone else. I'm excited to see what this year brings to me and everyone else I share my world with. As the web content manager for www.proof -of-life.net, I will strive to make a difference in the online hip hop community and I will always show respect to hard working artists who are really using their resources to make it in this harsh industry. If there is anything I can do to help you get there then talk to me or anyone from Proof of Life Radio because we all have something to offer.
Stay tuned for more blogs.............this is not the last of me! :)
Thank you and Happy New Year Everyone!!!!
Much Love,
Dizzy D

WHY NOT EDUCATE "HIP HOP AMATUERS" INSTEAD OF PRAISING THEIR IGNORANCE. GET OFF YOUR "HIP HOP HIGH HORSE" AND BE NICE!
PRIOR TO WORKING WITH PROOF OF LIFE, I WORKED FOR A TOTALLY DIFFERENT GENRE THAT BELITTLED THE HIP HOP CULTURE BY FOCUSING ON ALL THE NEGATIVITY LINKED TO HIP HOP. I HAD NO UNDERSTANDING OF THE HIP HOP CULTURE OTHER THAN WHAT I WAS TAUGHT. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO BREAK AWAY FROM MY CLOSE MINDED ENVIRONMENT AND OPENED MYSELF TO BIGGER AND BETTER THINGS. BUT WHEN IT COMES TO HIP HOP, I STILL CANNOT TELL YOU WHO SANG WHAT OR WHAT ALBUM TITLES ARE - THERE IS JUST SIMPLY TOO MUCH INFORMATION OUT THERE! SOME FOLKS WERE WILLING TO TEACH ME A THING OR TWO AND SOME WERE NOT. PROOF OF LIFE WAS AND IS VERY GENEROUS WITH KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, & GUIDANCE- AND THEY WERE GRACIOUS ENOUGH TO HAVE ME ON BOARD. EVERYDAY I LEARN SOMETHING NEW, EVERYDAY I WAKE UP TO HIP HOP.
